If you suffer from varicose veins, you likely already know the benefits of wearing compression stockings, taking regular walks and keeping your feet up as much as possible. While practical and important, these are far from the only home remedies to help prevent or lessen the effects of varicose veins. There are herbal and nutritional remedies which can also help your varicose vein issues.

Essential Oil Massage

Massaging your legs regularly with essential oils can help prevent varicose veins or reduce the size of your current enlarged veins. Conduct your massage by starting at the ankles and working your way up your legs. Massage your legs gently using circular motions. The best essential oils – only a few drops in a base oil – for this purpose include:

  • Chamomile
  • Clary sage
  • Ginger
  • Lemongrass
  • Parsley Solution

A parsley solution, used externally on your varicose veins, can help lessen their size. Consuming antioxidant-rich parsley – it’s more than a garnish – can also help reduce swollen veins. Boil a handful of fresh, chopped parsley and allow it to cool down to a lukewarm temperature. After straining, add a drop of rose essential oil and marigold essential oil to the solution. Put the solution in the refrigerator, and once it cools down, apply topically to your veins with a cotton ball. Use the solution every day. It may take time for you to see results, but you should notice less venous swelling if you adhere to this practice for a few months.

Eat Blueberries

Blueberries are always a treat, so eating them to help your varicose veins is a pleasant treatment. Blueberries can aid in strengthening vein walls and improving the blood’s circulation in your body. Besides raw blueberries, you can enjoy blueberry teas which promote vein health.

Drink Chestnut Bark Solution

While not as enjoyable as consuming blueberries, drinking a chestnut bark solution daily is another way to improve vein health. Add 5 tablespoons of chestnut bark to 1 liter of water after you bring the water to a boil. Let the liquid cool for 10 minutes, strain it and drink it while it is still warm. Do this daily.

Marigold Tea

Marigolds have properties that strengthen veins over time. Take advantage of these benefits by drinking marigold tea every day. Not only does marigold tea help reduce the edema around the ankles often associated with varicose veins, but it can also help relieve the discomfort some people feel from their enlarged, gnarly veins.
